Oli Clark proved his worth on the one of the most iconic downhill tracks in the World Cup! He took 8th at Fort William, after being up there with the fastest juniors throughout the race weekend. What is even better – he’s a lot more to show, which only makes the start of the season so much better!
Oli might be young and might not have tons of experience on the international racing scene, but that is not stopping him on his mission! He made a name for himself in New Zealand, in Fort William he showed that he can match the fastest juniors out there. Oli was fast on the practice day, did fantastic on the qualifications (set 4th time of the day in the junior category!) and had another great race run in the finals. One mistake in between splits 1 & 2 took him out of the top-5 contention, but 8th is still a great result. This gives this young Kiwi the confidence to go on the next rounds with high ambitions. Oli is also 8th in the overall standings.
Oli Clark: “The weekend in Fort William was all right. Did a few mistakes in the finals, but I’m stoked with 8th. I’m keen to go to Poland to see if I can do any better!”
Unfortunately, it wasn’t all great for us on the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series opener. Going to the event we knew that Ben isn’t back at full recovery after the crash in Les Gets last year, but it was also on the line for Aimi. Newbie on the team had a crash on the recent national race and we’re all hoping that she can go in the start gate at Fort William, her home race. But it was not meant to be, Aimi was not in the position to race, she needs to get to her best and focus on the future events.
Race in Poland is two weeks away, and for sure we’ll travel there with higher spirits! It’s a new venue, which is always great, plus we want to have Oli back in the contention at the very top! But before we go there, we will focus on Finale Ligure and Vid Peršak’s first world cup race of the season.
Big thanks to all team sponsors & friends that enable us to be part of this show!
